Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The School of Theatre and Dance is dedicated to providing undergraduate students with superior, professional training in theatre and dance. In our rigorous, conservatory-style training within a liberal arts setting, students are taught and mentored by a diverse faculty of active professionals, who work to prepare them intellectually, artistically, and practically, to be leaders in their chosen profession. The ECU School of Theatre and Dance is a dedicated undergraduate BFA program with an emphasis on professional preparation. Job Duties
East Carolina University’s School of Theatre and Dance invites applications for a full-time temporary Fixed-Term Teaching Instructor, Teaching Assistant Professor, Teaching Associate Professor, or Teaching Professor to begin August 16, 2021, for one or more semesters. As a means to broaden and deepen the scope of the dance program’s scholarship, this position will contribute to the commitment of the program to embrace diversity, equity and inclusion within its faculty, students, scholarship, and practice.
The teaching load for the position is 12 credits per semester with an expectation for creative contribution to mainstage performances. The candidate’s area of expertise will be prioritized within the teaching load alongside their contributions to teaching courses in ballet technique and dance science.
This appointment is contingent upon available funding.
Minimum Education/Experience
The applicant must have a terminal degree (MFA, PhD or international equivalent) in dance or commensurate professional experience. The applicant must have had two or more years of experience training and educating pre-professional or professional level dancers.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Preferred teaching qualifications include the ability to teach one or more of the following: pedagogy, dance somatics, partnering, pointe, creative process, hip hop and global dance forms including but not limited to those from the African, Latin, Asian and Southeast Asian diasporas. An interest in developing or sustaining nationally recognized creative activity and/or research is preferred as well.
